Ta da! ....New Roses!!

Well the summer wedding season has well and truly arrived again and I barely have time to sit and write this post but it was imperative I tell you about the new David Austen roses that are hitting the NZ flower market next week!

I was thrilled to be invited to the launch party last week for these amazing new roses that are being exclusively grown by Auckland's top rose grower Van Lier Nurseries. The party itself was spectacular, set on a private estate on the cliff top above Kohimarama beach in East Auckland. The venue, including the gardens, were adorned with roses of all colours and included the prized David Austen varieties which are like nothing else!!

Check out some of these pics from the party...

The above Variety is called 'Dolcetto' and is a huge dusky mauve/lavender variety with a million petals, that are characteristic of the David Austens.

These deep pink varieties were amazing, such striking shades!

Look at this stunning rose curtain constructed from ribbons and rose heads in water vials.... great idea for a wedding backdrop I think!

The piece de resistance was most definitely this amazing arrangement of roses and other wild flowers. I adore these colours, the blush pinks, creams and apricots looked divine together. The smell was also heavenly!!

Just look at this stunning new variety called "Juliet" I can't wait to work with her!

All of these stunning florals were created by Franca and Florienne, a very talented florist.
The first few David Austen varieties; Juliet (apricot), Kiera (blush pink) and Patience (cream) are out next week and the other gorgeous shades will soon follow in 2013. While they are so new they will be pricey at over 3 times the cost of a standard rose, so these roses for the time being will be for true flower lovers.

I will post more on the varieties that are available soon but for now I am too excited to start working with these new babies and I know my brides are going to be as crazy about them as I am.

Huge thanks to Van Lier Nurseries for putting on this amazing event and for bringing these fab roses to NZ we can't wait to create beautiful arrangements with them!

New Zealand Weddings Magazine

We were thrilled to see one of our beautiful weddings was featured in New Zealand Weddings Magazine's most recent issue.

Our lovely client's Susan and Scott married at the historic Mansion House on Kawau Island. The wedding style was vintage with ivories, soft mochas, and powder blues. The beautiful images were captured by William Liew Photography.

The flowers were various shades of mocha, dusky pink and creams with blush pink peonies and silver lambs ear leaf interspersed.

The whole look was beautiful soft and a perfect compliment to the dramatic backdrop of sea, sky and the incredible historic homestead

The reception tables were decorated with shabby-chic vases and tea light holders with stems of roses and peonies intermingled.

Thanks so much to Susan and Scott for being such lovely clients to work with and for forwarding their beautiful wedding photos. We wish them huge congratulations and best wishes for a long and happy life together.

Exquisite Images

I am always in awe of great photographers and am particularly inspired by beautiful wedding photography. A good photographer can make a ordinary scene look magical and knows how to capture the light and the angle in a way to make an object or person simply sparkle.

Case in point are these stunning shots from our client's Rachael and Simon's wedding earlier this year.

I particularly loved creating this bouquet because I managed to source this gorgeous soft pink lisianthus that is hard to come by, that looked so beautiful with the soft pink sweet avalanche roses. So when I received these images from our client's after the wedding I was elated to see how their photographer Danelle Bohane had captured the bouquet so beautifully.

I also love how we incorporated Rachael's Great grandmother's pearls, that have been passed down through the generations of her family to her, into the bouquet binding, truly making this bouquet personal and unique.

Another touch I adore was the little west coast bunny tail we included into the gent's buttonholes for a little touch of New Zealand.

These images are so stunning and I am so pleased for our clients that they have such beautiful memories of their special day.

Friday the 13th Wedding

Leon and Kate are a couple with a fun sense of style and a passion for art, cinema and music. They share a love of 50's fashion, comics, and cheesy horror film. So of course what better day for them to marry than Friday the 13th!

The vision for the day was '1940's Ballroom from the classic horror film 'The Shining', meets a Mad Scientist's Laboratory.... what fun!

The colour theme, Ivory, Black and Dark Red.

I encouraged Kate to go with a classic elegant look with a hint flare... hence the ostrich feathers in her bridal bouquet which consisted of cream vendela roses, cream-blush calla lilies, with ostrich feather detailing, bound in ivory satin.....

The bridesmaids wore black dresses with red accessories and Kate loved the idea of dark almost-black-reds, for a gothic horror look. We created these posies of deep red roses, black calla lilies, with red berries and black feather touches, bound in black satin....

The look of the bouquets together was very striking composition of flowers to accentuate the fun but gothicy theme of the day.

Leon wore a cream calla lily with feather detail bound in black satin, to compliment Kate's bouquet....

And the Groomsmen wore deep red roses with black feather detail...

The Father's wore simple cream rose buttonholes and the Mother's wore cream spray roses with feather and ribbon touches....

The venue tables with dressed with an array of vases with red roses, calla lilies, black feathers and ribbon, winter twigs and leaves, for an equally gothic and glam look.

It was such fun to work with Leon and Kate in creating their dream Friday the 13th Wedding. It is a treat to do something a little left of center every now and then and I loved how the rich colours looked with the attire. Very stunning!

Ashleigh and Matt's Summer Wedding

Ashleigh and Matt married in March and we had the pleasure of creating their beautiful flowers for their special day. The colours were bright and fun which I believe totally encapsulated their personalities.
As you can see from the gorgeous photographs the day was filled with lots of fun and laughter.

Ashleigh is just the most gorgeous bride and the couple's love shines through each photo. These beautiful images were shot by Pedrotti Photography.

The arrangements all consisted of calla lilies and Ashleigh carried a posy style bouquet of pink calla lilies, fading from hot pink to ivory.

Ashleigh has one of those smiles that lights up the room. I just love her navy nail polish a cute little homage to her navy bridesmaids dresses

The bridesmaids were very chic in their tailored navy dresses and the navy binding on their calla posies coordinated beautifully.

The Gents were very dapper in black suits with calla lily buttonholes.

These portrait shots of Ashleigh and Matt are just beautiful.

It was a treat to be a part of beautifying this couple's special day and I am thrilled for them that they have such a varied wedding album filled with fun, laughter and love.We wish them the same for a long and happy life together.
